Background
I was born in Boulder, Colorado and moved to Dallas in 2007. My parents immigrated to the U.S., escaping Kurdish genocide by Saddam Hussein. I grew up being a first generation Kurd born in America.
My parents started a new life here when they had nothing and knew no one. Seeing my parents work hard for their success in a country that was foreign to them showed me that anything is possible. Their success inspires me to work harder to achieve my goals every day.
My parents love traveling and I’m grateful they instilled that value in me at a young age. We went on many family vacations throughout my childhood and it has given me a greater understanding and appreciation on different cultures.
